August is Immunization Awareness Month

August is National Immunization Awareness Month, when health experts encourage families to make sure their young and adults have vaccines that are up to date.
This National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout one's life. People have the power to protect themselves and their family against serious diseases like whooping cough, cancers caused by HPV, and pneumonia with vaccines.
During NIAM, many health organizations encourage people to talk to a doctor, nurse or other health care professional to ensure themselves and their family members are up to date on recommended vaccines.
They also encourage people to visit CDC’s Interactive Vaccine Guide, which provides information on the vaccines recommended during pregnancy and throughout a child’s life.
As children head back to school this fall, parents should make sure vaccination is at the top of checklists. August is also a key time to make sure vaccinations are up to date. CDC’s adult vaccine assessment tool can be used to see which vaccines might be right for adults.
