Northwood/County law enforcement talks to continue

At their meeting on Monday, April 6, the Worth County supervisors revisited the possibility of continued law enforcement service with the City of Northwood.
Northwood mayor Doug Moehle and members of the city council attended the meeting. Moehle asked the supervisors to reconsider working on an agreement that would extend the Worth County Sheriff’s Office as the provider for law enforcement needs in the city.
The supervisors signaled their willingness to look at a new agreement, with the acknowledgement that the price presented to the City would not be up for negotiation, but would reflect what it would cost for the County to provide the service.
City representatives at the meeting agreed that they would welcome a new proposal from the County to consider.
The supervisors planned to review figures and options with sheriff Jesse Luther, not only for Northwood’s law enforcement coverage, but also for other Worth County communities. The goal is to make sure that the cities cover the costs of law enforcement, without the rest of the county covering any excess.
