Party candidates chosen in primary election
Worth County voters took part in the primary election Tuesday, choosing who would represent their political party in the November general election.
Three county offices will be up for election in November.
Current auditor Jacki A. Backhaus ran unopposed to represent the Republican party for re-election. She received 714 votes to receive the nomination. There were 71 write-in votes.
No candidates filed for the Democratic nomination.
Current deputies Jesse Luther and Chad Wurtzel filed to be the Republican candidate for Sheriff.
Luther received 796 votes. Wurtzel received 66 votes. Luther was elected to be the Republican candidate.
No Democrats filed for sheriff.
Current supervisor Mark Smeby and current Hanlontown mayor Rick Scholbrock appeared on ballots to represent the Republican party as the candidate for supervisor representing District 2.
Smeby received 177 votes. Scholbrock received 163 votes. Smeby was elected to be the Republican candidate for supervisor.
No Democrats filed for the supervisor office.
State and federal offices will also appear in the primary election.
State offices in the primary election include Senator from District 30. Incumbent Waylon Brown, Osage, and Doug Campbell, Mason City, appeared to be the Republican candidate.
Brown received 571 votes in Worth County and led with 2,546 votes in the district. Campbell received 304 votes in Worth County and 2,273 district votes. Brown was elected to be the Republican candidate in November.
Democrat Richard Lorence appeared unopposed to be that party’s candidate.
For state representative representing District 60, incumbent Jane E. Bloomingdale, Northwood, and John Rosenfeld, Clear Lake, ran to represent the Republican Party.
Bloomingdale received 582 votes in the county and 1,729 votes in the district. Rosenfeld received 292 votes in Worth County and 1,112 votes in the district. Bloomingdale was elected to be the candidate in November.
No candidates filed to be the Democratic or Libertarian candidates.
One national office will appear on Worth County primary ballots.
Incumbent U.S. representative Ashley Hinson, Marion, appeared on ballots unopposed for the Republican nomination. Democrat Sarah Corkey, Cedar Falls, appeared unopposed on primary ballots.
