Suicide prevention resources are available

With another young person lost to suicide in the community, the resources available for those with questions about suicide and suicide prevention remain important.
Below are a number of online, phone and text options for adults, parents, young people and others who are worried about loved ones or are facing issues themselves.
The Iowa Department of Public Health offers Your Life Iowa, at yourlifeiowa.org, which includes resources for people or their loved ones facing a variety of issues, including thoughts of suicide. The website includes a live chat feature. Those with concerns can also call Your Life Iowa at 855-581-8111 or text 855-895-8398.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a hotline for individuals in crisis or for those looking to help someone else. Anyone may speak to a certified listener by calling 1-800-273-8255.
Those looking for emotional crisis support may also message with a trained listener at the Crisis Text Line by texting HELLO to 741741. The service is free and confidential.

What to do
Do not leave the person alone.
Remove any firearms, alcohol, drugs or sharp objects that could be used in a suicide attempt.
Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
Take the person to an emergency room or seek help from a medical or mental health professional.
