On the Spot

Here is an answer to a question that I've never been asked. "What do you do when you don't have an opinion article for the side of the page?"
Well, here's my answer. You start typing in the space and continue doing so until you run out of space. Am I an expert in this? A trained person with lots of experience and someone that can speak on effective ways to do so?
No. In fact this is the first time I have ever done it, as far as you know. You are reading later, what I am typing live. This is basically a live opinion column. How's it going so far, you probably weren't asking, but are now thinking.
My answer- it's going OK, I think. I am about halfway through the space to fill and it has been filled! Is this entertaining, compelling reading? Almost assuredly not.
It should be noted that the entire exercise of this improvised writing is not to write something that anybody should take seriously. Don't get me wrong, I do that almost weekly, or at least make a concerted effort to do that. Instead, the purpose of this writing, that you are, again, reading at roughly the same pace I am writing it, with the same amount of consideration..... No joke, I just forgot what I was trying to say. That's embarrassing. And now I notice that this paragraph is becoming a bit of a run-on, so here we go, new paragraph!
And the paragraph begins! And continues. And ends again.
Well, as I sit here, not thinking about what has been written so far and what is to come, I think to myself, "Self, why are you doing this?"
Well Self, as I don't remember writing above, I wanted to try a writing experiment and for some reason decided that this was the space to do it. Boy, I was wrong. Oh well, lesson learned. If you enjoyed this, please let me know. If not, please avert your eyes the next time you see me and pretend this never happened. That's my plan.
