Fire in Northwood March 7
A building in Northwood, located at the corner of Sixth Street and Central Avenue, caught fire on Monday, quickly overcoming a structure that housed storage below and two apartments above. The Northwood Volunteer Fire Company was the first to respond to the fire, but it quickly became clear that the blaze would require the efforts of several area departments. The NVFC responded with 20 firefighters. Other agencies assisting on the scene included fire departments from Manly, Lake Mills, Glenville, Joice, Kensett; along with the Worth County Sheriff’s Office, Worth County EMA, the City of Northwood, North Iowa CERT, Alliant Energy and the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s office. No people were known to have been harmed in the fire, but the structure was a complete loss and pets did not survive.
