Kensett house on fire Monday
This Kensett home caught fire on Monday and fire departments from Kensett and Northwood responded at the scene, working to suppress the ongoing fire. As at the scene were members of the Worth County Sheriff’s Office and Alliant Energy. Fortunately no one was currently living in the home. No cause of the fire was known as of Monday, but renovations and painting were reportedly underway on the house, noted as a potential related cause.

Preparing the treats
When the Northwood Chamber of Commerce holds its annual Halloween parade, the prize for participation will be a bag of treats, no tricks. And once again residents of the Lutheran Retirement Home, some dressed for the holiday as seen here, helped prepare the bags of candy for the youngsters.
Leaving more
With the season of falling foliage the City of Northwood has once again offered its convenient alternative to burning leaves. The City’s leaf collector has been picking up piles of the leaves, arranged into streetside piles. Sometimes they arrive just as the piles are being put into place, as seen here.

Student Artists of the Month persist through challenges, gain knowledge from making mistakes, try new things, and are willing to learn from their peers.”

Autumnal accents for the mini-park
The scene above was recently set at Northwood’s downtown corner mini-park, the first display created by members of the Northwood Craft and Garden Club. The club plans to decorate at the park as the seasons and holidays change.
N-K visits NVFC, and vice versa
During National Fire Safety Week last week, members of the Northwood Volunteer Fire Company visited students at Northwood-Kensett Elementary to make sure they were learning all they needed to know about staying safe in fires. Students in the kindergarten classes also visited the fire station to learn about the vehicles, equipment and station used by the NVFC.
Last week the Northwood Volunteer Fire Company visited the Northwood-Kensett Elementary. They talked with all the students about fire safety, having a meeting spot outside the home, how to stop, drop and roll, and more. The preschoolers also tried on the uniforms. Kindergarteners rode NVFC rescue and fire vehicles to tour the NVFC station. First graders learned about fire fighting equipment. The second graders learned more about rescue tools.
Class of 1957
“Eight members of the NHS Class of 1957 enjoyed a 65th reunion at Diamond Jo’s Woodfire Grille on October 8, following a tour of the impressive new athletic department given by Keith Fritz, NKHS principal. Roy Larson is voted the most admirable being legally blind, yet riding a bike. He says he may not be able to see, but he can hear good. Roy’s two daughters brought their dad to the reunion. There are 21 living class members enjoying the daily exercise of breathing. Pictured are LaVerne Anderson, Cynthia Vold Forde, Ann Baken Stevens, Sue Tenold Olson, Victor Edwards, Jerry Brunsvold, Myra Severson Harris and Roy Larson.”
