Combine fire fought
Last week, this combine caught fire in the field. Fortunately no one was injured, but the dry conditions that were still persisting last week created the possibility that fire could spread. The Northwodo Volunteer Fire two hours that evening suppressing the fire and removing smoldering beans. The NVFC responded with 12 firefighters, one engine, two tankers, a brush truck, a technical rescue and an ambulance.
Banking on a tasting treat
As NSB Bank is celebrating 90 years, it brought the party to the Lutheran Retirement Home recently. After offering celebratory root beer floats at the bank in Northwood the week before, bank employees brought the tasty treat to the dining room at the Lutheran Retirement to share in the event.
Working on the ‘walk
The project to replace City Hall adjacent sidewalks began last week. Springer Construction was hired to handle the removal and pouring of the new sidewalks. The project comes as the City has asked reisidents of the city to fix cracked, uneven, damaged and dangerous sidewalks. Amongst the sidewalk needing work was that of the City of Northwood.
Interesting insects
Students in Mr. Urbatsch’s second grade classroom at Northwood-Kensett Elementary have spent time learning about insects as the school year has begun. Pictured at left is a praying mantis that has been calling the classroom hoom, and enjoying a healthy diet of crickets. The students also learned more about monarch butterflies thanks to a visit from Worth County naturalist Heaven Walker.
Helpful movers
The Worth County Historical Society had some help putting in place one of the newest additions to its main museum. Pictured above is the museum’s newly donated pump organ, along with the helpful high school volunteers that helped carry it into the building.
