Following in the footsteps of a legend is never easy. I know, I walk in the shadow of the legendary Ron Olson every day. But if anyone on this year’s cross country team can make a name for herself and secure her spot among the greatest in the sport at their respective school, it might just be N-K’s Megan Ocel. The talented freshman, who, when it’s all said and done, will have had one more season under her belt than superstar Lindsey Davidson when it’s all over and done with, placed 14th in last Tuesday’s me
With the rain at times and the cooler weather this fall the area high school cross country season has seen just a handful of meets so far. But despite that lack of competition for its runners, the Northwood-Kensett boys XC team had a pretty successful run at it last week, placing eighth at Sunny...
When your team racks up 50 points in a game there is usually more than one or two players that had outstanding games, but one player did catch my eye when looking over the stats for the Vikings' 60-50 loss to Turkey Valley. Senior Carter Severson led the team on the ground against the Trojans with 113 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. Severson also had a nice game on the defensive side of the ball, collecting seven tackles, three solo. Severson leads the Vikings on the year with 250 yards rushing.
Even though this will be the ninth year that Northwood-Kensett has played 8-man football, the run and gun, both teams racking up 50 some odd points has not really been the way the game has been played. With N-K still running the ball and eating up the clock on most nights, there just hasn’t been...
Although the Vikings' 66-12 win two weeks ago over Clarksville didn’t exactly call for any heroics, they got some performances that could go in the hero category nonetheless. TJ Whitelow is one example, the talented senior did it all for the Vikings against the Indians, with one fumble recovery, one interception, three solo tackles and four punt returns for a total of 161 yards (40.3 per return) and two touchdowns.
By Mike Simmons Sports Editor One week after the Vikings scored 66 points against Clarksville to improve to 1-1 on the year, they’ve had the favor returned to them after Tripoli came to town last Friday night and hung 50 points on the home team in the 50-6 loss. The Vikings, who were outdone on...

Viking Brandon Varner looks to turn the corner on a North Iowa defender in Friday night’s 38-21 loss to the Bison. Varner rushed for 89 yards on 13 carries and scored one rushing touchdown on a 52- yard run.
The Bison of North Iowa have been taken to the woodshed for a beating many times by the Northwood-Kensett football team, losing their last three games to the Vikings by a combined score of 155-6, including last year's 40-0 shutout. But with those beatings come experience and a desire for revenge,...
